Coloring a Spectrum of God’s Love

Let’s celebrate National Coloring Day! Friends at Cinnamah-Brosia’s Coffee Cottage love coffee and coloring pages. Go ahead. Grab your colors and coloring book, and let your creativity shine!

The word color always brings to my mind a favorite Bible verse from The Message version: Matthew 5:14-16

Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

God created all the colors. What a beautiful spectrum! His Holy Spirit lives in us. When I think of that I know the Light of His love must shine through me and you for others to see all the beauty of not just how much He loves us, but who He is. I need a frequent reminder of the above verses to keep me shining His colors and His glory all around.

Adult coloring books have been popular for at least a few years – the style of many of designs reminiscent of henna patterns. The fragrant blossoms of the henna bush are among the spices in Solomon’s locked garden.  Another beautiful reminder of His love. My first devotional book, The Essence of Courage, took a look at the spices in that locked garden. Solomon used them as descriptions of his bride. Because henna designs often look like coloring book pages (or the other way around) we included a coloring page in the book. You’re invited to the party. Click photo to order the book in digital or paperback.

Many of us run on coffee and Jesus. My friend, Linda Fulkerson, has a whole coloring book devoted to just that! While you’re over at Amazon grabbing your copy of The Essence of Courage, you’re encouraged to get her book, too. (Not a writer? You’ll enjoy it just the same.)

A closing thought, broken crayons color as beautifully as brand new ones. All the cracks we accumulate over the years of our life are the perfect passageway for our God Colors to seep through. Think of yourself as a prism breaking light into all the colors of creation. Then color away and let those radiant hues shine for Jesus!
